Roles and permissions

Updated

A role is a set of permissions. Everyone on your team has one role, and it decides which areas they see and what they can change. You manage roles in Settings → Users, under Roles.

Access levels

For each area of the dashboard, and each group of settings, a role has one level:

LevelWhat it means
Full AccessCan view, create, edit, and delete.
View AccessCan look, but not change anything.
Assigned AccessTables only. Sees only the tables they are assigned to. Made for servers.
No AccessThe area is hidden from the menu.

Some areas have an extra switch under them. For example, Tickets has Scanner navigation access to open the ticket scanner, and Tickets and Tables have Disable refunds. Customers has Disable exports.

Built-in roles

Every venue has an Owner role and a set of preset roles, such as Manager, Host, Accounting, and Server. Owners always have full access to everything, and the Owner role cannot be edited or deleted. To see what a preset allows, click the pencil button next to it.

To undo your changes to a built-in role, click the restore button (a circular arrow) next to the role, then Restore Defaults.

Create or edit a role

  1. Go to Settings → Users.
  2. Under Roles, click Create Role, or the pencil button next to a role.
  3. Enter a Role Name, and pick an Icon and a Color.
  4. Set the access level for each area, and any extra switches.
  5. Click Create Role or Save Changes.

A new role starts with No Access everywhere. Changes apply to everyone with that role.

To delete a role, move everyone off it first, then click the trash button next to it and Delete Role. Built-in roles cannot be deleted.

Good to know

  • To use the ticket scanner, a role needs Full Access to Tickets with Scanner navigation access turned on.
